EDLD 615 - Collective Negotiations
Instructor: Dr. Sydney Farber - Eastern Michigan University
Collective Negotiations course is exactly what it sounds like. It was taught by a former Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. His focus was to prepare us for the many obstacles that we will face as administrators when negotiating a employee contract. The portion of the class that was actually most beneficial was the simulation we performed. Basically, we had two sides and one was the administration and the other was the teachers union. We had a scenario that was true in nature and we spent 8 weeks negotiating. Many hours outside of class were spent collecting data and preparing for our class negotiation sessions.
This was my first class back after my first masters degree. I thought at one time that I wanted to get my Specialist degree in Educational Leadership. After about three classes I quickly realized that I wasn’t growing as a leader in the program. I was taking classes similar to what I had during my Masters in Educational Leadership, not to mention I have been in administration for over 14 years and needed some new focus. That’s when I found the MAET program...and very happy I did.

CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructor: Emily Stone
This was my first MAET course! I wasn’t sure if this would be the direction I would go, but I quickly realized obtaining a Master of Arts in Educational Technology was in my best interest as an educational leader. This was also my first introduction to Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) , which shaped my focus through the program. The focus of this course is to improve teaching through technology use. It consists of effective use of technology in education, and learning issues related to technology use.
It also focused on five major themes:
1)Theories of learning and understanding
2) Essential mindsets for teaching with technology
3) Professional Learning Networks (PLN)
4) Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK)
5) Creative uses of technologies for learning

CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education
Instructor: Sara Beauchamp-Hicks
CEP 811 is designed to allow students to continue their exploration with educational technology. This specific course is outlined to drive students toward repurposing technologies into educational tools. As a building principal creating lesson plans haven’t always been my main focus. However, during this class being exposed to the many uses of technology has opened my eyes to what is available as effective teaching methods. Using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as a direct way to guide your lessons. With so many diverse learning styles and in most cases only one teacher delivering the content, using the UDL practice can help to have a sound lesson plan. Also, I really appreciated the StAIR assignment, which showed me that there are many creative ways to present a topic. I was able to tie this into a staff meeting and expose the middle school teachers to think outside the box in their delivery of the content.
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice
Instructor: Allison Keller & Bill Marsland
CEP 812 is the third and final course in the Educational Technology Certificate Program sequence. This course focuses on how educators can use a wide range of technologies to address issues within their classroom and the education system. Students of this class explore well-structured, ill-structured, wicked problems and educational problems. Developing my Professional Learning Plan is just another example of the valuable projects that CEP 812 has provided me. All of my experiences in the MAET classes have been valuable, but during this class I have been pushed to a higher level of thinking. Plus, I have had the chance to learn practical skills that will help me in my day-to-day work. My favorite was learning to use Google Hangout. I have used Google Hangout in my daily work, such as meetings that otherwise would require me to leave the building. This was an experience that was well received by my colleagues as well. The second item was my expanded use of Evernote. During the entire Wicked Problem, using Evernote as a tool rather than a checklist made the project more manageable. Being able to bounce between my computer, I-pad and I-phone with information at any given point helped me document my project at any moment. A lot of great learning happened during this class and I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge during the MAET Summer Cohort.

CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructors: Dr. Danah Henriksen, Dr. Punya Mishra & William Cain
This course is intended to give students a deeper understanding of how people learn, inside and outside school. In addition, students will have an opportunity to incorporate technology in their learning, learning as active, socially-mediated construction of knowledge in school, home, community, and work settings. What is learned, how it is taught and learned and what learners bring to the setting.
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructors: Dr. Danah Henrikson, Dr. Punya Mishra & William Cain
This course focused on developing our leadership skills in regard to technology. After completion of this program we are going to be looked at as leaders in Technology. We examine the complex charge of being responsible for managing relationships between technology, teaching and learning. Students will continue to evaluate the social and ethical implications of technology integration in schools. With a focus on professional developement.
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Dr. Danah Henrikson, Dr. Punya Mishra & William Cain
In this course, we explore alternative methods of educational research by identifying researchable problems in education and developing a research proposal. We each had a group to work within to focus on a common misconception. We completed interviews with people to see if they also had these misconceptions. At the end, we had to analyze and provide data to our findings.

CEP 820: Teaching Students Online
Instructors: Anne Heintz & Sandra Sawaya
Teachers explore their own pedagogy in order to determine which learning management system is best suited for their educational needs. I consider myself an Educational Leader, however, I forgot how much time our teachers spend developing lessons! Not to mention they need to be engaging and meaningful for all students. Additionally, these lessons need to meet the many different learning styles that our students have. Those factors, combined with this being an online course… make for a difficult task. The journey is continual. It has taken me many weeks to even begin to feel comfortable with what I have developed. But, I am gaining momentum.

CEP 817: Learning Technology by Design
Instructors: Dr. Punya Mishra & Jon Good
This course investigates the process of design particularly as it applies to educational technology. Topics covered include learning by design, human computer interaction, art and aesthetics of design, iterative design, design evaluation, and collaboration in design. I created a website on the dangers of Social Media that I will use as a tool for our students in Saline Middle School.

CEP 807: Proseminar in Educational Technology
Instructors: Dr. Matthew Koehler,Joshua Rosenberg,Spencer Greenhalgh & Brittany Dillman
CEP 807 is the final course taken in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology program (MAET) at Michigan State University. The capstone course is a very peer to peer driven course in which we analyze each others work. This is very beneficial to have feedback from colleagues who are in the progress of doing the same work. At the end of the course we will each have a portfolio that will showcase our time as MAET students and all the hard work we prepared.
